An easy trekking tour, totally immersed in nature, and which, at the same time, led you to walk in the thousand-year history of the territory.

You start from the center of Minervino and after passing a first stretch where there are two menhirs quite close, you start walking in a delightful rural landscape made of olive trees, dry stone walls and our ‘pagghiare’, our typical rural architecture made by peasants in the former past. You walk towards the Adriatic Sea, along paths that are not simple country paths : the large ‘chianche’ that you see on the ground are almost 2000 years old. We are in fact on the extension of the Via Appia, the Regina Viarum for the ancient Romans, in its Salento variant, called Appia Calabro Salentina.

To the frequentation of armies and wagons full of goods along these ancient Roman roads are added also all the long pilgrimage routes born when the Christian religion began to be pervasive among the people. If Romans used to embark their goods through the small port of Otranto and Leuca, pilgrims were used to leave from Leuca to reach the Holy Land, at least once in their live.

Very easily you will be in Minervino again.
