
Walking on history
With this easy trekking tour you can have an overview of the magic of the territory around Minervino.
Starting from the center of Minervino, a first stop is at the church of Santa Croce with its beautiful family park. Immediately after a small road led you where the Dolmen Li Scusi is located. This small dolmen, part of the larger network of the Megalithic Park is a clear witness of an ancient place where pagan rites or rituals of passage were performed.
Through small paths it is possible to continue in the back part and start a walk along small country tracks, where you can admire our dry stone walls and many ancient building , so called ‘pagghiare’, rural construction very tipycal in a former past. You come across where the Monticelli menhir is stuck in the ground and then the Malcantone menhir, near the farmhouse of the same name.
With a small detour to the right you can walk on a piece of history. You walk along, in fact, the ancient route of the Via Appia Calabro Salentina , used by ancient Romans to transport their goods to the East part of their Empire. In this track, the Via Appia Calabro come across Via Francigena, a very famous Pilgrim Route, that led pilgrims to Leuca, and after towards the Holy Land.
With the last kilometer you can easily return to the center of the town.
